Which product is best for me?

There are many different types of modem available, however they belong to two distinct groups.

• Single User Modems
• Multi User Ethernet Routers

Single User Modems

Single user modems provide you with a similar connection style to a standard 56Kbps modem. Accessible using your Dial-Up Networking utilities on your PC. Designed for use with a single PC. The most popular choice is the USB modem which plugs directly into your USB port on your PC. Installation of the software drivers supplied is required.

Multi User Ethernet Routers

Unlike single user modems, multi user ethernet routers do not rely on software to be installed on PCs. Instead these routers connect either to a single PC via a 10/100Mbps ethernet cable or more commonly they plug directly into your LAN's Hub or Switch. They can therefore provide all PCs connected to your LAN with access to the Internet. They range from basic units with a single ethernet port, to routers with built in Hubs and Switches. Wireless routers are also available. At the top end of the scale the routers come complete with built in Firewalls to protect your office from malicious users.
